21 January

Switserland ( Belgium) collided with La Gascogne off New York, United States and holed. Put into New York for repairs, returned to service.^[1]

April

16 April

Vena ( Belgium) sank in the North Sea following a collision with another ship.^[1]

27 April

Ellengowan ( United Kingdom) sank at its moorings, unmanned, in Port Darwin and was abandoned.

May

17 May

Schooner Jeune Hortense ( France) wrecked at Long Rock, Cornwall.^[2] The Penzance lifeboat, having been brought by carriage to the beach near Marazion, rescued four crew.^[3]
Otto stranded in Mount's Bay, Cornwall. Later renamed Providence and operated out of Penzance.^[4]
Brigantine Nulli Secundus ( Germany) stranded in Mount's Bay. Previously named Tobacco and stranded on the Eastern Green, Mount's Bay in 1865.^[4]

June

30 June

Alhambra ( United Kingdom) collided with John T. Berry ( United States), which it was trying to salvage, and sank. Crew rescued by Tasmania ( United Kingdom. Derelict John T. Berry later sunk by Thetis ( United Kingdom) as a danger to navigation.

July

17 July

SS Beaver ( United States) grounded on rocks in Stanley Park, Vancouver. Wreck sank four years later.

Date unknown

Barque Renown ( Germany) sank off Den Helder. Five crew killed, twenty five rescued.
Barque Anna Delius ( Norway) abandoned in the North Atlantic. Crew rescued by Deutschland ( Germany) and later transferred to Pieter de Coninck ( Belgium) which landed them at Boston, United States.^[1]
